Marital status: Married
Children: 2
Occupation: Early Childhood Education
Comment: I have been married to Jeff Chenoweth (LOHS class of 71) for 42 years now.  We lived in Alaska for 8 years then returned to Portland and eventually LO where we raised our daughter and son.  We have a grandaughter and grandson are so much fun & who we get to see often.  We still ski a bit, and spend our time hanging out with friends & family outdoors and travelling.  I spent 33 years in the Early Childhood Education field.

Occupation: owner
Comment: Looking forward to seeing everyone in August.  My life has been great over the last 50 years.  Julie and I just had our 48th wedding anniversity.  Both of my sons are working in the family business in Bend, OR.   Pinecone business is still booming as we are now shipping to over 3,000 major grocery stores in 40 states.  Projecting to sell over 15 million pinecones this year - are you kidding me! Have pretty much retired from the day to day aspects but still keeping an eye on the money - you know how those kids are. Julie and I still living in Tucson and over the last five years have become a couple of "those" RV guys.  Other than the pandamic year had been traveling all the western states for the summers with stops in central Oregon for a month or so - totally fell in love with Montana.  Good excuse to get out of the brutal Tucson summers.  Have two grandchildren, our health and a solid family base.  About as good as it gets.

Scott Cohen

Occupation: Retired Professor
Comment: First of all, I’d like to thank Rob Moore for mentioning me in his update. I’m sometimes surprised when anyone remembers me at all, let alone that they would consider me worthy of mention. Honestly, I sometimes wonder if I remember me from back then, myself.

Anyway, life has taken me through a variety of twists and turns. Mostly everything’s been fine, here are a few highlights.

1973: Too bored with school to even think about applying to medical school. Graduate the following year without a clue what life will bring next.

Late ‘70s: Pursue a career in dance, including 2 years in NYC. Study modern at the Martha Graham School (take class from Martha herself a few times). Study ballet with Maggie Black, teacher to the stars (which I was not, but some days I look back and think I was pretty good); shared the barre with many famous dancers from companies such as American Ballet Theatre, NYC Ballet, The Joffrey, Martha Graham, Twyla Tharp, and more. Once did pirouettes, etc., next to Natalia Makarova (perhaps the most famous ballerina of those days) but was too in awe to pay attention to what I was doing.

Early ‘80s: Get into whitewater kayaking while working toward my Ph.D. in physics. Run many famous rivers, including Hell’s Canyon on the Snake, the Rogue, the Middle Fork of the Salmon, the Illinois, and so on. Manage to finish my Ph.D., as well, in theoretical physics, 1986.

1989-1990: Live in Tel Aviv, Israel, working as a postdoctoral researcher. Stay until well after the first Gulf war begins, but am eventually convinced by friends it makes no sense to stay any longer. Somewhere over the Atlantic while flying back to the U.S., we get news of the first scud missiles landing near Tel Aviv.

1986 to present: Iyengar yoga. I have practiced yoga every day now for over 30 years. It has been a central focus of my life these past few decades. Study with B.K.S. Iyengar and Geeta Iyengar in Pune, India, winter of 1990.

Somehow find my way to a tenured faculty position in the Physics Department at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. Solve the occasional long-standing unsolved problem, but generally too late for anyone to still care. Retired from teaching in 2012 but still do research. Have worked in quantum information theory for over a decade. My latest paper solves a long-standing problem that people might just still care about. We will see.

2015 Make a feature-length film with my niece. Well, she made the film, wrote and directed it, but I helped. "The Last Hot Lick", available on Amazon and elsewhere. Anyone remember Dan Hicks?

Over almost all these 50+ years, I have avoided political activism. I thought what was important was how we treat each other on an individual basis, so didn’t see politics as critical. The election of 2016 changed my mind about that conclusion. Ever since then, and continuing to the present day, I have been very involved with a progressive activist group. (I mention this not to invite political arguments, but only include it as one of my highlights over the past 50 years).

2021 has been a difficult year, for many of us I guess. I’m hesitant to attend a large, crowded gathering, especially with “delta” out there lurking. Being vaccinated, I guess I’m safe, but it still may not be prudent. I haven’t decided for sure yet, but it seems unlikely I’ll be joining you. Living in Portland again now, I guess I’ll be able to change my mind at the last moment.

Comment: Unlikley I'll make the reunion - hoping Europe opens up for a planned trip to Prague, an 8 day cruise on the Danube ending in Budapest and then a flight to London for 3 nights before returning to San Francisco.

After 8 years as a Special Agent and Legal Advisor with the FBI in San Francisco (1978-1986), I have been employed at several international investigatiions firms, including my own and a 3 year stint at Deloitte where I ran their west coast Business Intelligence practice. Prsently managing the western region (SF and LA ) for Guidepost Solutions.

After 28 years of marriage and three children my divorce was final in Dec 2018. Just before the pandemic I met a womderful woman (Susan) and we've been togther ever since. I live in Greembrae in Marin County on Corte Madera Creek where I learned to row just before Marin Rowing Assocaition shut down owing to the pandenic.

Work still takes up most of my time but I manage to swim 3 miles a week, ride my bike and manange a round of golf several times a month.

To be continued....
